CaSE considered the following options and provided pros cons for each with methodology:

  • In-situ rehabilitation – where the majority of rehabilitation works were undertaken in-situ
  • Demobilisation – where the swing span was disassembled, removed from site for rehabilitation and reinstalled

Both methodologies consider the remediation of the central swing span only.
The rehabilitation extent was to allow the structure:

  • To be maintained in a safe state,
  • To be trafficable by pedestrians, cyclists and light vehicles, and
  • To swing by a separate mechanism (not existing swing drive equipment).

Construction Method Statements were prepared for both methodologies to outline the sequence of works and likely impacts including the significant issues and opportunities were identified
