The Erskine Bridge is a multi-span cable-stayed box girder bridge spanning the river Clyde in Scotland.
The bridge was being constructed whilst the West Gate Bridge Tunnel in Melbourne, Australia, collapsed. The Erskine Bridge required further stiffening to meet the new standards established due to the collapse of the West Gate Bridge.
Our Role
CaSE was awarded several temporary works design packages and CAT 3 design checks by Spencer Group as part of their maintenance works contract on this bridge.
- Design of trolleys for Bridge Gantries.
- Footway plate lifting design – as part of the external painting requirements, a means of lifting and traversing a footway panel on top of an adjacent footway panel, from equipment sat within the cycle track envelope of the bridge, was required.
- Gas pipe restraint design – temporary restraint to allow removal of redundant gas pipe, preventing sudden pipe movements caused by built in stresses.
- Design and CAT 3 check for bearing removal and subsequent replacement
