Newport Transporter, Newport

Newport Transporter

The Newport Transporter Bridge is a transporter bridge that crosses the River Usk in Newport, Southeast Wales. The £10m project involved a feasibility study, including program, budget price, and options report for the full refurbishment of the Newport Transporter Bridge.

As Contracting Consultant, CaSE reviewed condition surveys and concept design for permanent works refurbishment. This report contained construction requirements and methods information and a cost estimate for the overall budgeting of the works. The report was used to obtain National Lottery Heritage Funding and included in the tender specification when the scheme went to market. The contract has since been awarded to Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd, in February 2021.

Case Scope & Specialist Inputs:

  • CaSE reviewed condition surveys and concept design for permanent works refurbishment.
  • Produced a constructability report for a full refurbishment to obtain National Lottery Heritage Funding
  • Created a detailed planning exercise for ABUK, in early contractor involvement, to specify major craneage operations that would be required during the refurbishment.
